A couple years ago we bought a new mh, this one has an electric awing. While it is easy to put out and in, you can't hang a sun screen from it when you need to bring it in every time the wind blows a little.
I'm think about seeing if it can be staked down.
I never had a problem with the wind with the manual one when it was staked down.

This is the tie down kit we purchased for our awning.

The black straps in the photo just wrap around the awning tube. We have found that using the springs and the straps it comes with is very important. After the big storm that destroyed the springs, I just used a set of ratchet straps to tie the awning down. Using the straps does not allow the awning to move and can cause the seams to get pulled apart. Allowing the awning to move slightly, keeps that from happening.
The springs are strong enough that the awning doesn't really move until the wind is above 15 mph or so. The springs allow the awning to move gently, evenly and safely.
