We tow both ways depending on where we are going and what we want to take with us. 4 down is the easiest and the most convenient when finding a site because of the shorter length, and also less weight being towed.
We use the trailer when we want to take our atv along with the suv. It is nice being able to back up. Had to do that when some idiot parked in front of me and locked his keys in his rv at a fueling station. The trailer is also nice for bringing along bicycles, extra chairs, firewood and gear(in a storage box) that may not all fit in your storage bays.
An open car trailer will probably weigh about 1500 lbs plus the Sumarai at about 2800 lbs, so you should be okay weight wise if you have 5000 lbs towing capacity.
With that said, we tow 4 down more often than we use the trailer just because it's easier. If you decide on a trailer, it would be wise to have a hitch on your Samurai so that you can park the trailer without having to use your motorhome to park it. That's if a pull-through isn't available.
