Your thoughts about Winnebago models?

After years of research, saving and shopping, my husband and I are ready to buy our first motorhome. We have decided on the Winnebago brand for quality and floor plans.
We are particularly interested in the Minnie Winnie/Spirit 26A and the Aspect/Cambria 27K.
If you have had experience, good or bad, with these models that you would like to share, we would love to hear from you.
Thanks in advance!
  • We had a 2008 Aspect 26A with 44K miles. It was a great RV especially for 2 people. WBGO makes a nice quality RV above the thundering herd. I especially liked not having to worry about overcab leaks and being able to run the driver's seat all the way back and recline it a bit.
  • Loved our Sightseer. Best rv yet. Too many gee whizzes on the 40 ft DP we full time in .
  • we have a '12 aspect and its an OK unit. I think that the original owner paid for the name more than anything. Have the U shaped dinette and it really sucks very uncomfortable and hard to use. The audio system is a mystery in action, talked to a guy with a 15 cambria and he has same issue with the chassis and house audio.

Depends really on the portion you are concerned with. The Jaycos' have better driver compartment with electric seat vs standard swivel seats (that also are worthless IMHO). The wife liked the floor plan better but we could not find one when we purchased this one. The B+ option was what we really wanted not the overhead bed setup. Outside storage was about the same on both models but the aspect has more storage I think.

I cant talk about other models except to say stay away from thor products they are mainly junk from the few I have been around.

Weight distribution is a major issue in RV's. That's driven mostly by wheelbase. Too short and the rear axle is overloaded, front is underloaded and it won't track steadily on the road. The 26a has about 58% wheelbase to length, and the 27K about 56%. People used to say 52% or more was good, but there's more to it than that. Manufacturers set the wheelbase according to the floor plan they want. They can't have wheel wells where you'll trip over them. So often there's too much rear overhang to allow a rear queen bedroom. 26A has two slides back there, so more weight than if the bedroom was just back there as overhang. That means 58% wheelbase doesn't distribute weight properly.
You can't go by door jamb labels, product brochures, even the builder's weight sticker somewhere in a cabinet. WHY? The axle weights are Ford's max ratings. The "as built weight" is total vehicle with no idea how it's distributed front to rear. Solution? Go get it weighed. If it's Rear Heavy/Front Light, it won't track on the road like one with 40% or more of actual coach weight on the Front Axle.
Look at Outside Storage space. In this case 27K has much more than 26A. Probably the issue of three slides vs one. Slide mechanism uses space that could be storage without the slide.
  • Not the same model, but we owned the Aspect 23D for over 10 years and loved that RV. We looked seriously at the new 27K and liked it but, went a totally different direction since we wanted more room for full-timing.
  • 09 Cambria 30ft. Purchased pre owned, very happy with it. Some repairs needed but nothing major. After each trip there is always something to fix, tighten or look over. Being handy with small stuff is a big plus. The floor plan works for us, the shower curtain was replaced with one that extends outward and makes it easy for a man to get in and keep the water off the floor. I replaced the toilet with a larger one. The Cambria has no front overhead bunk and that was the reason I chose this model.
We tow a Jeep 4 down or sometimes a 20 ft. trailer with race car parts or maybe just my scooter on a rack on the back, lots of power, expect 8 to 9 MPG.
  • Almost bought a Cambria 27K but the shower was just too small. Minnie Winnie had a better floor plan for us and is less expensive. We now have a class A Vista 27N.
  • it will have a fiberglass roof, not rubber like some of the others.

  • I had a Sightseer, Class A and loved it. I also had an Aspect 26A and that was a great little Class C. My 20/20 hindsight is 100%.
  • I have the 2014 Spirit on a Chevy chassis - I purchased it new, had a problem immediately with a fuel line connection, had it repaired easily under warranty at the Chevy dealer and have had no problems since. It has been perfect for me.
