Another cast iron pan question

My cast iron problem is not rusty but really gunky with baked on grease and oil. Very gunky. Will oven cleaner, plastic bag and a plastic scrubber clean it up?

IMHO, highly recommend against the use of oven cleaner.
I use a stainless steel scrubber to get the worst gunk off, then boiling water, dry and reseason.
  • Three options, personslly I like the second one.
Have it media blasted and follow new pan seasoning procedure.
Two, scrub it as best you can with a SOS pad, followed by a good drying over high heat. Re season and cook happy.
Three, place it in the oven and run the self clean cycle. 700 degrees certainally wont hurt cast iron.
  • I always thought the oil and grease was just part of the seasoning process for the pan. I just wipe off the excess.
