Wondering if anyone else precooks food for camping trips....
for long race weekends trips I'll pre-cook bacon & breakfast sausage (at home) and then use our FoodSaver to vacuum pack it in "daily" portions....then i just open one pack (per day) and warm it on the grill or in the microwave.
takes up less room, and its a lot mess / grease to deal with at "camp"

You bet. When we go horse camping my wife will pre-cook late afternoon meals (chili, taco soup, etc...) that she can pop in the crock pot and it's ready when we get back to camp. She can take a shower after the ride and we can eat and relax all evening without sweating over an oven or grill. It's also handy as we never know when there may be a pot luck where several people pool their food. When we camp we really just eat about 2 meals a day and snack in between so we don't normally pre-cook breakfast. We sleep in and slowly get up and I feed and water the horses while the wife cooks our breakfast and afterwards we ride for several hours.
Ya, but nothing like the old days, taking the horses over to the forest service corrals and shoveling out the horse trailer and throwing down a tarp to sleep on. In the morning bacon and eggs over the camp fire. We smelled like horses when we got home. :B
