I don't know about the smokehouse though, looks a lot like some other houses I remember. When I was a little younger almost all the farms around had smokehouses and all the stores carried big bags of Morton Cure all, I believe it was called. They raised hogs that they fed from their crops and hen they cured and smoked them. For what ever reason, maybe availability, many were made from red clay blocks. If they weren't from the clay hen they were from rough hewn lumber, probably oak. I know the wooden ones were susceptible to fire and I suppose that would be a real disaster to lose a full one.

Yep, like a Siren's song! On a DI (Drool Index) scale of 1-10, they hit very close to a ten. Am particularly interested in the wooden smoke house design.
