Beans: to salt or not to salt?

And for the record:
This is not a health-related question. I couldn't care less about whatever the latest popular opinion is about salt-in-the-self-obsessed-American's-diet. More wars have been fought over salt that any other commodity! I think that fact speaks to its necessity for human survival.
My only concern is the quality of the finished product, in this case beans. And so far, results seem to be mixed. Some salt when boiling, some don't. All love their own beans.
Which reminds me, it's time to take mine out of the oven....
