Any French Press I've ever used does NOT "press" the grounds. All they do is shove them down out of the way for when you pour. So exactly how does a FP produce better coffee than just soaking your grounds in hot water Cowboy Style.
I would love to do a double blind test of this.

I think the French Press is all about (1) the ground (2) the amount of time the water surrounds the grounds and (3) the temp of the water.
As far as I know there's nothing magical about the FP.
Use a good bean, grind it correctly.
Use the right amount of bean to hot water and voila - good coffee.
