I've been using Folgers 100% Colombian in a Mr. Coffee machine, for years now --- OK but not great ---- wife hates it, drinks tea. I got some sourdough starter and they sent me a packet of Starbucks Guatemala Laguna de Ayarza coffee, and it was quite good even in my Mr. Coffee machine. Problem is it runs $1.70/oz and my Folgers runs $0.55/oz. I'm just not willing to shell out that much for the Starbucks.
Any ideas? I've been googling and lots of advice on roasting my own beans, grinding ($160 grinder!!) and using some kind of press machine. Sounds complicated for an old man.

Why not? If you absolutely "cannot afford it" then sure, stick with the old standby. Get the expensive stuff and don't worry about it. You've earned it.
I remember when Yuban was considered top of the line. LOL

You are making me feel old, I remember when my parents would only drink Yuban Coffee. I still buy Yuban Coffee. Other wise I buy what ever is on sale. But more often than not Yuban Dark Roast Made in a Mr. Coffee 12 cup pot at home. In the RV we use a Melitta Pour over method. Boil the water on the stove propane is cheap.
