We just buy whatever beans Costco has in bulk for dark roast. And of course we do grind them but only because we have one of those expensive burr grinders from playing with good coffee around years ago.
But when on the road to restock we just buy ground coffee since I'm not hauling around that huge bean grinder. And we see no difference assuming it is fresh coffee grounds.
Our preparation consists of bringing a pot of water up to just below boiling and dumping the grounds in. Put a lid on, wait 5+ minutes, then pour into the mugs thru a hand held screen. We call this Cowboy Coffee.
Dump the grounds out into a trash can, wipe out the pot, and you are done.
This gives you the same coffee as the French Press method. All those contraptions do for you is push the grounds down out of the way so that you don't have to hand pour through a screen.
I suspect that if those devices had been named something other than "French" they would not have near the mystique that they do.
And remember, even bad coffee becomes pretty good together with a big greasy donut
This is the best coffee you will ever drink! Costco, or, Sam's sell terrific coffee beans in-bulk, to DIY your coffee grounds from!
For the beginner(s) - just use a strainer0screen, or a white paper filter basket from your coffeemakers to filter it.
Good advise here!
