Brood of 17 year Cicadas hitting most of the eastern states this year. Ten or twelve years ago we had three different broods at onetime or overlapping. Back then there was talk of eating the things....
In the U.S., wild insects may contain high levels of insecticides (or so I understood from a PBS program about cooking with insects). But a few now and then ought to be OK.
I once found canned grasshoppers in a supermarket, and found them to be tasty. I think that they were from Japan. I hope that they were "farm raised".
