Davey Crockett spring legs

I have been reluctant to set mine on a picnic table and use it. Seems like it could scorch the wood beneath it, especially if I cook at higher then smoking temps (I know heat travels up). Do you have a concern that way ? Do you think that laying down a layer of aluminum foil would reflect enough heat to matter ? Maybe use something else ?
