Cornbread made with buttermilk, bacon drippings, a little sugar, salt, butter with thick crust but not hard. Chicken stock from a Chicken not canned or Turkey, butter. Green onions, and plenty of them, regular onion, sage, a good amount,celery in small but not too small bites. I think that is all. Having thoughts of a chestnut dressing. there's an American Chestnut up the hill that has a load of nuts.
The trick is not to get a soggy mess and not dry crumbs. Difficult with soybean oil prebasted frozen Turkeys. Mama's dressing is still the best I remember. I wasn't written down but I think I know all that was in it but it's not the same.
