Easy DO Goulash Recipe

Here's a fast and easy goulash recipe that works in both a dutch oven (DO), crockpot or stove top.

2 c Frozen or fresh onions, red peppers and green peppers
1# of italian sausage (casings removed)
1 packet of chiliman chili seasoning or other brand
1 large can of crushed tomatoes
1 box of elbow macaroni
water to cover plus 1 inch

1. Place 12 coals under the DO and add sausage and peppers.
2. Break up the sausage and cover and stir every 3 min.
3. When sausage is no longer pink, wad up a paper towel to soak up the excess grease.
4. Stir in the seasoning and cook for another 3 min.
5. Add the crushed tomatoes, macaroni, and water.
Note: Water line should be at least 1" above the food. The macaroni will soak it up while cooking.
6. Cover the goulash and add 6 coals to lid.
Check after 15 min to make sure the mixture doesn't go dry.
Stove top and crockpot times vary.
"Doctor" the recipe by adding Worcestershire sauce, steak sauce, or other favorite ingredients.

I think I missed it. What is the total cook time after adding the noodles? 15 min-just enough to cook the noodles?

    Thanks,

    Craig
  • Sounds good! I use egg noodles in place of elbow macaroni, though. It's all good!
  • Thanks, bardbu. I'm already getting creative here: cumin, garlic, oregano and chili powder will make it South of the Border and top with cheese; Curry and garam masala will give it the taste if India; garlic, basil, and oregano can take it in the direction of Greek Mousakka or a simple Italian dish topped with cheese of course.

    Getting hungry.

Thanks! Great recipe! We have had boxers since 1970! They are high energy, but you're in for a real treat! They are such clowns! Just make sure you put basic manners on them or they can/will be "creative thinkers".......LOL
