Also, I wouldn't be afraid to run your menu ideas by them. For instance, if someone said to me "I'm thinking about eating spaghetti, do you guys ever eat that and how do you prepare it?" I would respond by saying, yes we eat it but I use spaghetti squash "noodles" instead of noodles and leave out the meat. I'm sure there are other well known dishes they still eat in their household they've just found ways to modify it. At our house I often cook two different versions of things. Like the spaghetti example...I use spaghetti squash noodles but I still make regular noodles for my husband. If someone else was joining us I would make meat on the side for them to add to their own spaghetti as we don't eat it. When we have wraps my husband will have his in a tortilla while mine is in a large collard green or chard leaf. Anyway, you get the point, sometimes it's just a matter of making small tweaks to simple dishes.
