Got this nice Ham Bone! What to do?

Just pulled a nice ham bone with a lot of ham on it out of the freezer. I need some ideas, recipes, etc for what to use it in. I know navy beans and ham, but that’s about it!

    X2!!

I never use the bone for anything. I give it away, as I don't like the whole "parts is parts" philosophy. LOL

  • Ham Bone
    Navy Beans
    2 cans of HOT Rotel
    Sliced Jalapeno Sausage
    Diced Onion
    Few pieces of sliced bacon

HIGH on Crock pot for 1.5 hrs - then on LOW for 5 or 6

    ENJOY!

I'd be making a killer navy bean soup with that.

    My choice also....or....

    :p
  • It's a tough decision. One ham bone, so many choices. I would go for garbanzo bean (chick pea) with split pea a close second. lizzie
  • Easy. Split Pea Soup. Rinse the beans, put in the ham bone, cover with water, and cook for around 30 minutes. Add your favorite spices too. Mine are garlic, pepper, and Cajun spice. A good dash of cayenne pepper if you like a little warmth. Nothing like a good split pea soup.
  • Any bean or split pea recipe can use it. Personally I'd put it in jambalaya or gumbo; or even a Saturday night stew with any leftover vegetables for a long simmer.
  • If you do anything bean related, I HIGHLY recommend sticking the bone w/meat in the smoker for a 1/2 hour - 1 hour before starting your beans. Putting in a pot of baked beans and sticking the whole thing in the smoker turns out awesome too.
