Griddle for the Q1000

Well, it's been a while since I built anything for the trailer......and I just love cooking bacon and pancakes in production line ease. I built this griddle/flat top for my Q1000. Basically traced the grill right on to a 1/4" plate, cut it out with a torch a total of 5/8" smaller all the way around so I could weld a 5/16" rim around it to direct grease to the finger slots on the ends. Buffed/sanded it down with a 80 grit rotary wheel
  • I put this little dude into action last week end and it worked great. I can cook 6 nice sized pancakes at once on it. That's kind of a win for me as I find it frustrating to cook 2 pancakes at a time. Since I tend to "breakfast cook" with the lid open, I didn't really notice any excessive heat build up. The griddle is a real nice all around temp when the flame is kept on low. Also, very even griddle heat due to the circular design of the burner. Looking back I wished I wasn't in such a hurry when I built it.....It has a pretty "made in Pakistan look" to it! But it works!
  • We have a griddle for our Weber and it covers the entire grill. I'll have to check when I get home and report back.

    Hi Vintage,

Just be careful, I know the owners manual for my Q2000 warns against using 2 griddles at the same time because the heat cannot escape... I would imagine that the Q1000 would have the same issue. But, it looks awesome!!!

Yeah, I figured since the griddles came in halves there was a concern from the MFg. about heat build up in the bottom. I figure on running it on low setting or alternate it from off to low to keep the temps in check.

Sorry, big fingers.....posted it by mistake before I got the pics attached. After getting it buffed down I washed it thoroughly with dish soap. Then put it in a 350 deg. oven to dry. After a 1/2 hour of drying I applied a coat of shortening and let it season for 1-1/2 hrs. Then I took it out and put in one the little Q, fired it up and fried an egg. I'ts pretty darned non stick as I chased that danged egg all over the griddle with the spatula. It tasted like a perfectly cooked egg and not the welding table.

I'll get to try it out more completely next week end when we go camping.
