Halloumi cheese

Love it grilled and fried in a bit of olive oil. It is difficult to find in small town America and in my opinion pretty expensive. Does anyone know of another cheese with the same qualities that can be used as a substitute? I know I can order it on line, but price and shipping is outrageous.
Thanks.

  • Queso De Freir which was available at Sam's Club and some supermarket chains.
    Having it for supper tonight.
Fry in a little olive oil and it turns a nice golden brown sort of creamy inside yum.
The brand I have is made by Tropical
  • COOKS magazine talks about this in the current issue. I've had fried greek cheese and it was good. Gonna try this.
  • Went to the "city " yesterday. Bought some Mexican cheese, as per your suggestion.
Delicious. Not quite the texture of halloumi but at $8 for 12 oz, a bargain compared to $20+ a pound for halloumi.
Bread recipe sounds great Super Dave. Will give it a try with queso blanco.
    Thanks folks.
