The invitations should state "Cocktails at x:xx, Dinner served promptly at x:xx." About an hour apart. And then stick to it. NO open bar. You make the drinks so you can use a shot glass. If somebody just shows up to drink, then they've attended the last dinner party at my house. I have no intention of serving a well done prime rib roast to the other guests because of a drunk.
