My Dad always made them this way:
1 C self-rising cornmeal
1/2 C self-rising flour
1 large egg
1/2 C of beer
1/2 C finely chopped onions
Batter should be moist, but thick. Drop by tablespoons in hot oil and cook till browned.
I can eat a big plateful of them with catsup!
