Is there any other brand of camp stove besides Coleman?

We just got back from camping at Hunting Island State Park and I have realized that I HATE my barely used Coleman camp stove. It burns WAY too hot and cannot be adjusted down. Well ... actually it can, but you have to literally hold the knob in place! Making it very hard to cook with just one hand.

My question is - is there another, better brand of camp stove out there? If so, what is it?

  • Are you using one with white gas - a liquid filled tank, or propane, a pressurized tank.

One reason that the primary burner of a white gas stove needs to be so warm is to keep the tank pressurized.

    Try a propane type stove.

There are also butane and a couple of other gases used to run stoves. Look at a few in a larger sporting goods store. Try Dicks Sporting Goods, Big 5, and any other local larger stores. Maybe even Tractor Supply if there is on near you. If they don't have 5 stoves to pick from, you probably will not find the correct one there.

My parents started out cooking on a Coleman stove, and changed to a Sears Propane stove in 1968. It worked great. No pumping the tank.

  • Sears sells one, as does a couple of other off brands. Had most of them over the years, nothing compares to the Coleman.
