We have been using our Kuerig machine both at home and in the TT for several months now... The PODS can be expensive.. The other day at Costco, I notice their house brand (Kirkland I think) that had 100 PODS for $35.95.. BUT the coffee was called a Bold Blend.. Has anyone tried these Costco Bold PODS? I would hate to buy 100 of them only to find out they are not to my liking... Normally use Folgers or Maxwell House Medium Blend..

Some of the newer Kuerig machines have readers that will only use their pods that have an identifying chip. There are re-fillable pods available that you can use with your own ground coffee, but my DIL used them in her Nespresso machine, and eventually they damaged the machine, and it had to be replaced. I'm not sure if that is the same with Kuerig?

We buy pods at Costco and like the Bold from Kirkland. I however use the refillable contraption. I get to use the coffee I like from Costco and feel like I'm helping save the plastic (which is not recyclable, even tho I empty every pod DH uses into the garden and then toss the plastic into the recycle bin).

The issue with Kuerig approved (read cash extorted) pods and non approved pods is the printing around the outer edge of the top label of the pod. The newer machines have a reader that reads the printing on the label. There are plenty of videos on youtube on how to disable this questionable "feature". As far as what the Kirkland coffee is like it could be hit or miss. I typically prefer a more balanced smoother blend but I drink coffee all day long and do not need a "bolder" coffee experience. I find that my favorite lower cost pods are 8 O'clock original and 8 O'clock colombian.

If you have a Kuerig classic, that is a non "v. 2" machine, use refillable pods. We won't pay outrageous prices for prefilled K-cups. Not to mention that the coffee we like isn't available in K-Cups. Depending on the coffee you buy, you can use the refillable for as little $.20 a cup. Here's an interesting article about the 2.0 Kuregs...

I've had the Bold Blend and it's very good IMO. Costco will take it back if you don't like it BTW.

The best reusable coffee pod we found is the .Echo Brew $13.88 and free shopping.

to answer the original question,the house blend is a medium strength coffee,it's ok if your not a coffee snob,but if you like your first cup to hit home,brew 2 small cups into one big mug using 2 pods like i do.the price is standard costco price,and i buy the box regularly.its very close to your normal blend,but everyones palate is different right ?

I make coffee in my Krups for daily coffee but Keurig is the most convenient method I've found for camping. I use it at home when I want one cup after dinner and it then becomes the most economical choice. I wasn't aware there was a 2.0 or that there were issues. I get my coffee from Amazon at a reasonable rate. Hope my Keurig lasts a long time.

Love my Keurig. It has lasted for several years. The secret is to get the COMMERCIAL grade unit at places like Staples or Office Max. I noticed the RETAIL versions are made more cheaply. The wife is a coffee drinker, I drink tea. With the Keurig, both of us are happy. And we do take it on the road with us.

We use the re-fillable red plastic thingy... WITH THE FILTERS

The filters are key to easy cleanup and I would be using the pods of it wasn't for the filters.

They are about a perfect tablespoon. Hold the paper top tight and then make sure the cone pierces the paper top and close the plastic lid.

Very economical.

I can have about four cups of Keurig for the price of one large cup of regular Starbucks coffee. I don't have to get dressed or drive to get it either.

I'm good with that.

I have the newer 2.0 Keurig. I did the hack suggested -- I use a top off of an "official" Keurig K-cup, taped to the underside where the K-cup goes in. I clean out my old K-cups and refill them with fresh grounds I ground myself. Then I put one of THESE TOPS on.

For hot water for tea, I cut out the bottom of an "official" Kcup and gut it, and stick that in the machine.
