Given the cost of fuel and the low current dram of crockpots it might be worth researching the use of an inverter. Without any facts in front of me my educated guess would be that the inverter would be the way to go if you can warrant buying one.

Generally when we did this, it was in conjunction with a summer trip where it was Nicaragua HOT... And I drove with both A/C's going anyway - where the generator was going to get used regardless.
