I do much the same with the veggies and aromatics I frequently use. Got to love that many of them can be flash frozen. Since mushrooms don't freeze well I've taken to using dried 'shrooms. Normally I go with porcini and ****ake (hmmmm guess the auto editor doesn't like the start of that mushrooms name:D. It's shatake and just replace the first "a" w/ an "i",) caps but the skies the limit on that level. I use the strained soaking water as a broth for the dish I'm cooking for additional mushroom flavour.
