I can only add "ditto" to what's been said. I DO scrub my cast iron if I see some rust. I scrub it good too. I don't let it sit in water for long periods. After cleaning I set it on our hot wood burning stove for the afternoon to dry it out good. Then wipe it down good with some edible oil...and into the oven @ 300° for about 3 hrs (seasoning). I only have to do this maybe once a year. I don't use my cast iron for acidic dishes. It is disturbing thinking about some rodent living in your frying pan... Yukky....
