OK, I admit it. I'm a coffee addict. I need to be fully caffeinated each day. I grind my own beans, but this means I have to be hooked up electrically or have the generator on.Usually I grind the beans and set up the coffee pot in the evening ready for the morning.Is there a coffee grinder available that runs off 12VDC? A brief search didn't come up with one. Suggestions?

If there were, it probably wouldn't work well. How about an inverter?

People were grinding coffee beans long before electricity was in homes. Search eBay for " manual coffee grinders". You will find many there, some antique and some new.

I have a manual coffee grinder that belonged to my great grandmother. It's rather bulky. But I usually try to grind enough beans with my electric grinder when I happen to be hooked up to last for a week or two. Maybe not as good as freshly ground daily but not bad. I keep it in a ziplock bag to keep the air out.

I have looked and looked myself for the D-CELL coffee grinder with no luck as well.You can find a manual crank type grinder however.Actually in a pinch a hammer works good too haha...I use an inverter off my 12VDC batteries for my Mr Coffee bean grinder. Then I can perk fresh coffee using the propane stove. I also have a 400WATT Inverter under the seat in my truck as well. Always got to have a PLAN B...However the Cuisinart Grind and Brew Coffee maker model DGB600B is the best solution we found for making coffee in the morning when the generator is running. This only takes five minutes to grind and brew-up a 10-cup pot of coffee. This goes into a thermos carafe which stays hot for many hours... We get ours refurbished from AMAZON for around $60 and they are just like new... One last us around three seasons... Our success in making sure the coffee taste the same everywhere is to bring along our same brand of bottled water we like the best. No surprises doing it this way...Roy ken

In a pinch I have used an adjustable pepper mill after rough crunching with a pan in the hand. There is, also a salt grinder available at gourmet stores I have used. Manual is my preferred way to grind, but I will do a weeks worth in advance if necessary and keep it in the fridge.

Just get something like this for those times when you're not hooked up to power? You'll get a little work out...and ground beans!! It's a win win!

Without an inverter, the OP can't watch TV without running a generator either. I would think that would be his best idea. I don't think grinding beans is going to deplete his batteries.

Good Lord! DH is also a coffee nut. Fresh ground beans with a Burr grinder, every morning. Well, guess who forgot to pack the grinder for a camping trip? Since, Mr. Coffee brought his precious beans-we had to go to the local market and buy pre-ground coffee. The Horror!
So now, before a camping trip-he grinds a bag's worth of beans, puts it in an air-tight container, and we're good to go. It's a lot easier than messing with a coffee grinder, plus, you won't bother your neighbors with the noise.
