For those of you just tuning in:We have our family reunion on the 4th. The family descends on our house or campsite and the menu is always pork in theme. This year we added an extra twist. Pork dishes from the 1950s-60s. Here's the final version with the added footnote that we have a female relative who always brings a green salad, so this year she's bringing iceberg lettuce with bacon crumbles and other toppings. She insists on a "healthy option". :R1950s hors d'oeuvresHam and egg ballsDeviled Ham on Ritz crackers topped with ripe olives or relishBacon-wrapped pineapple chunks on the grill.Main Course2 Meatloafs made from ground pork and chuck, wrapped in bacon, baked in Dutch ovens (surprise surprise).:WHawaiian SPAMburgers on the grillRoast sweet potatoes with butter, brown sugar and cinnamon- topped with crushed pineapple and bacon crumbles baked in a dutch oven.:BGreen bean casserole Ham and vegetable casseroleCantaloupe, watermelon and berry pies for dessert.

I've seen some do potatoes, turnips and peas for their veggies and that makes me cringe. There are also such things as tomatoes, which are served as a veg, when they are really fruit.*I'm sure the dieticians would have definite comments about too high a percentage of protein, or too high salt content.* I invented a great stew of late, --stewed tomatoes could be 2.5 c. tomatoes to 1/2 c. of each of other ingredients, except meat or 1 c. or more beef cubes---diced beef--sliced parsnip--sliced onion (i.e,. 1/4" x 1")--diced celeryThe parsnip is the taste maker. Brown beef cubes before other adds.:C

I haven't looked on ancestry.com but I'm pretty sure we are related. What should we bring? ;). Fresh clams, salmon and crab. A buddy is having a feast for us to repay me for helping him install elecrical at a capsite he bought next to the ocean. We have 30A& 50A for two Rv's!

According to Mickey Mouse, we'll be having a hoop-de-do time: "...In between skits and song standards, chow down on buckets of all-you-care-to-enjoy fried chicken and smoked BBQ pork ribs, as well as a tossed green salad (no bacon?!;)), baked beans, fresh-baked cornbread and strawberry shortcake.Unlimited draft beer, wine and sangria are included for Guests 21 years of age and up (proper ID required). Soft drinks are also included."...the things and places I wind up at/do for my children and childrens' children.....

I don't buy into it.

I get up early and have a cold beer for breakfast, followed by a liquid lunch of cold beer. Then a relaxing afternoon with plenty of cold beer followed by a dinner of cold beer with perhaps some bourbon for desert. Then we have a fun filled evening swilling cold beer like the local wino until passing out in the chair at a campfire. My faithful dog has yet to learn how to wake me up when the fire burns out around 3AM, and I'm passed out freezing my rear end off in the rain. Happy Birthday America, Land of the free, Home of the brave, land of uncountable beer selections.

Since I have to work Monday then off Tuesday, something on the grill most likely burgers and brats(maybe hotdogs).
easy sides nothing fancy or chips?
no camping until the end of the month in the NC humidity and heat.
