I agree with your relative.
My menus are:
1 protein dish
3 varied vegetable dishes. of which one is a strong carbohydrate, such as potatoes, 1 is a strong green veg, and one betwixt and between, or peas, parsnips, beets, carrots all have a certain carb content. I've seen some do potatoes, turnips and peas for their veggies and that makes me cringe. There are also such things as tomatoes, which are served as a veg, when they are really fruit.*
I'm sure the dieticians would have definite comments about too high a percentage of protein, or too high salt content.
* I invented a great stew of late,
--stewed tomatoes could be 2.5 c. tomatoes to 1/2 c. of each of other ingredients, except meat or 1 c. or more beef cubes
---diced beef
--sliced parsnip
--sliced onion (i.e,. 1/4" x 1")
--diced celery
The parsnip is the taste maker. Brown beef cubes before other adds.
