Reheating prepared food?

I made some food ahead and was trying to think of the best way to reheat it. Does anyone use their crockpot for warming already cooked food? I made a big batch of beef stroganoff and a pile of mashed potatoes.
  • My Wife says a skillet on the top of the stove is the easiest.
  • No access to a nuker? I reheat the same way generations did before me- on the stovetop.
I'd oil the pan (could be butter/olive oil/ margarine/whatever makes you happy) and heat to medium first then place beef in the center of the skillet with mashed taters on the sides and cover. When the cover is hot the food is as well,in general. Serve.
  • Depends on the food, but I am not overly happy with the taste that seems to disappear with the microwave. I will use a slow cooker if not in a hurry, or a pot or frying pan. We sometimes wrap in tin foil and put on the BBQ, low heat, lid down, and have a drink and wait.
  • I like to prepare meals ahead of time and re-heat in the electric skillet. For spag sauces, chili (things with strong odors), I prefer heating on top of stove in a pot.

Yes, some things have to be done slowly or in spurts and left to rest to even out the heat.
  • I use the crock pot to warm up stuff like your beef stroganoff, chili, stews and even pulled pork anything that has a sauce or a liquid content.

Doing these in the microwave seem to boil the liquid and not get the rest of it hot. It also seem to add flavor when done slowly in the crock pot.

As for more solid things like mashed potatoes or veggies I will just nuke them.
