I use to hate grating cheese until I bought the Presto Professional Salad Shooter 3 days ago. I wish I knew about this product a long time ago. In fact I'm going to buy another one for the motorhome. The best part is all the attachments are dishwasher safe and so easy to use. My husband is making his own cucumber, onion and tomato salad with this gadget and he's no cook, LOL. I always fear things like that are under powered and lean towards the manual powered versions. If you are doing cheese, it must be pretty good.

My wife buys cheese already grated. Why bother with doing it yourself.

It is a good product and has been around for a very long time. My dad got one something like 20 years ago and it got a lot of use. After many years the plastic cylinders finally got brittle and broke, no shame for it at that point. He bought a new one. We already have a kitchenaid food processor so we don't need one, but I would not hesitate to recommend the salad shooter.

I buy pre-grated 99% of the time. But I read somewhere that it works better to grate your own for macaroni & cheese due to the added stuff. Something to do with faster melting without added stuff... Or whatever.

So for that I buy block cheese and run it through the food processor. Not sure it really makes a difference.

Never owned one but I'm sure many have RV kitchens that are larger than the one in my apt:B. I use my microplaner or knife for cheese and yes it sure is less expensive.

We get a good shelf life with what we buy. You do have to be careful in handling so that you don't spoil it, but that's true with any cheese.

I had one when there were two people to cook for but not now. I loved it, I think it's one of the best inventions out there!
The reason for grating your own cheese? It's way cheaper.
