All the earlier talk of prime ribs and smoking has decided me. This Independence Day I'm going to try my hand at using some flavorful woods to cook a prime rib on my Weber Go AnyWhere.
Any suggestions as to type of wood?
TIA!
You have plenty of time between now and Independence Day to experiment - why not try them all? :P
This would be my plan. Try cooking some burgers and use mesquite. Then next time, use hickory. Repeat as needed. You can get bags of wood chips for use on a charcoal grill, or in a smoker box (or foil pouch) for use on a propane grill. I soak the chips for a few minutes before using so they don't flame up. Walmart, Home Depot or Ace carries them I think; Also places like Cabelas and Bass Pro.
Wood chips work better for things that are cooked quickly, like burgers or pork chops. Wood chunks last longer so they work better for things that take longer to cook.
I am a big mesquite fan for most anything, but I know that using oak to cook a steak works well. I also have hickory and use it often.
As you can tell, I have no loyalty.
If I was forced to recommend one for you to try - it would be hickory.
