I like beef stew/soup. Everytime I make it I use slightly different ingredients.
Beef Stew
To add barley..rinse then simmer barley for at least 1 hour.
Saute stew meat in iron dutch oven in a wee bit of olive oil or butter.
Add raw veggies as meat simmers (onion, celery, carrots, cabbage etc.)
When meat is cooked add 1 quart of home canned whole tomatoes & more water as needed, cooked barley, potatoes, any other left over or cooked veggies (corn, green beans, kidney beans, etc.), 1 to 2 teaspoons of beef bouillon granules, and 1 to 2 tablespoons of Kitchen Bouquet. The beef bouillon adds salt but a little more may be needed.
Simmer on wood stove until done or it can be cooked up in a pressure cooker.
