I wouldn't in the oven because there is nothing to keep the contents from spilling out. With a crockpot, you can place it in the sink so it and the contents can't fall, flip, spill, etc.
With the oven and an aluminum pan, you have far more chance of the contents spilling out as it heats up.
I would set the casserole in the sink while you drive (to prevent accidental spilling) and let it defrost, then put it in the oven upon arrival.
