Weber Q1000 lid removable?

The exterior compartments on my class C are not tall enough to accept the Weber Q1000 with the lid on; can the lid of this grill be removed for transport/storage?

(I understand that using the lid when cooking is advisable; just concerned about fitting the grill into an outside storage compartment.)

Thanks.

OK, good to know about the pins (probably cotter pins?) and the 'lid off' cooking option. Thanks.

I've never used a propane grill, but since (open fire) charcoal grills are not permitted in an increasing number of national forest campgrounds here in CA and in other 'dry' parts of the west, the Weber Q1000 looks like a viable option - if I can find a place to stow it! ;-)

Not Cotter pins but slip pins with keepers on the ends.
The Q100 was also to high by about 1 inch to fit through the slam hatch on my TT so I took the pins out and drilled out the holes just a little over size so it was a good loose fit for the pin to slide in and out.
To stow the Q, I take the lid off put the Q in then put the lid in and on the Q and slip the pins and keepers in place. Reverse to to take out only takes a minute.

  • If it like the 100 I have there are 2 pins for the lid hinge. Simply remove the pins and the lid comes off.
  • Without unpacking mine I can only guess that those pins can easily be removed. You also may want to try cooking with the lid off. It seems to cook much better when opened. Closed seems to make the food cook too fast on the outside and too slow inside. Try it!
