What's on your menu this Memorial day weekend?

First. A big thank you to all service men and women, past and present.

So what's everyone got planned for the BBQ?

Tonight I'm doing ABT's (stuffed jalapeno wrapped in bacon), and stuffed Portobello's with blue cheese burgers.

Tomorrow, a 14# brisket, St Louis ribs and smoked Mac n cheese.

Sunday and Monday.... leftovers.
  • Eating out everyday until Monday afternoon which is a nice change of pace for us. Visiting DC and reveling in this city's history and culture.
This morning we ate in the main dining room and had: oatmeal souffle with berries and nuts for him (whoaaaaaaaa I sooo need this recipe!); an egg white omelette Caprese for me and a full American breakfast with vanilla yoghurt "French toast", bacon, grits and buttered bisquits for the baby piglet(aka DGD) we travel with. Stored the sweetum's leftovers in the room's fridge since I knew she couldn't possibly eat all though she made a valiant try, LOL.

Went to the National Zoo today and had the hotel make up a picnic lunch of grilled chicken salad and a Cobb's salad with fruit on the side w/ cold bottles of water in an insulated bag; very thoughtful and utilitarian.
Walked back from the zoo and stopped at the National Cathedral so DGD could draw pictures of the building and we could eat our lunch amidst the herbal section of the Bishop's Garden. A lively conversation was had between bites that drew on our different religious heritages.

Now back at the hotel after a long walk, everyone else still napping and thus I cancelled our dinner reservation. It'll be room service and a view out the window to better evoke our surroundings. I'm having the sole; no idea what the sleeping beauties will want.
  • Steak, salad, potatoes, bacon-wrapped steak, steak kabobs, stir fried leftover steak if there is any: I think the theme is a little obvious :c

Wonder what Super Dave is making?

Ok. We need a pic of that smoker...

It's done over three days, we own a BBQ vending trailer.
  • First the Flags get hung to fly proudly, then we start the day off with a Potato Bomb brunch treat, then Bubba Burgers (Hawaiian Style) with some Adelle's sausages(pineapple and Jalapeno) with fries and a few LongBoards!
Later in the afternoon the rubbed and marinated Tri Tips will go on the smoker with some ABTs, then we'll break out the home made slaw and some pork and beans and some more LongBoards..
Then on Sunday we'll change it up a bit with Texas Style Bubba Burgers and Hash browns and more LB's.. While thats going on the seven racks of St Louis style ribs all rubbed down will be smoking slowly all day, with another batch of Monster ranch style beans and potato bombs! Then to sit back and wrap it up with a tall high ball glass of Crown Royal with three ice cubes!!
  • Going to a b'day part @ a Mexican restaurant tonite. Sat/Sun/Mon....have no idea. Not camping nor invited to any bbq's..just do whatever. But I do plan on making homemade peanut butter cup cookies. And a homemade sugar cream pie is cooling on the counter....
