I got this recipe on this site many years ago, when more people posted recipes. Everybody likes it, and it's very easy so it's perfect for camping. Great for toast on day 2 or more.
This recipe makes 1 loaf.
1 1/2 tsps. yeast (1/2 packet if you don't buy by the jar)
1 cup warm water, divided
1 1/2 tsp sugar
1 tsp. salt
2 cups flour
Dissolve yeast and sugar in 1/2 cup warm water, let sit 10 minutes to proof.
In bowl, combine flour and salt. Add yeast mixture and remaining 1/2 cup water.
Stir until combined.
Cover and let rise in warm place until doubled, about 1 hour.
Stir down and place in greased round 1 1/2 qt casserole dish or ovenproof bowl.
Brush top with melted butter or spray margarine. Rise again until doubled, about 45 min.
Bake at 350 degrees about 45 minutes.
There is no kneading, which makes this so easy. It is a very sticky dough - don't worry about it! You can also use a loaf pan if you want a more loaf shaped bread.
