We have similar problems with our children and the associated grandchildren. DIL thinks it is proper to send invitations to family events as an entry to Facebooks Events. I still don't regularly read face book. We keep telling her to send us e-mail directly.
We have had to give up the "When would you/he/GC like to...?) We never get a firm answer. If we get any answer at all, it is inside the workable lead time. So, now we say "Would you like to ... on the (our chosen date/time)? We have to know by.... If we get an answer great, if we don't? Sorry, that ship sailed.
