My general rule has been to make my plans based on what I want. Then I throw out the invitation to others to join me if they wish. If they don't go, then I'm not stuck where/when I don't want to be. If they do go, then we have a good time. If a second campsite is needed, then I let them know that they will need to make their own reservations - I only reserve what I need. I tell them what I have available for food and drink - if they want something else, they bring it themselves.
I have found that this works out a lot better than trying to get everyone else commit to my preferred timeline. If they wait until the last minute to say "I want to come along", and they can't get a reservation, then they are the ones who lose out not me. If they wait until the last minute to back out, then I'm not out a bunch of money on food and drinks I don't like.
I find I don't get angry, hurt or disappointed by their actions either, since I'm not having to change plans, etc. for them at the last moment.
