First Of DS's Trips with Friends Done -- update

I'm trying for "Mom Of The Year" right now --LOL!

I took DS and a friend & friend's GF (all 17-18) with us for 3 days camping (well RVing). The friend had JUST gotten back from tent-camping with his older sister for 2weeks through the Grand Canyon area & back down thru Texas. K. told us he MUCH preferred sleeping in a "real" bed with AC than the tent trip. :)

They went hiking, swimming, and night-fishing until the wee hours of the morning. Teenagers pretty much take care of themselves I found out. I sat around & enjoyed my cold ones, floated in the lake, & cooked. They cleaned up & did dishes.

They all said they had an awesome time. Round 2 (3 different friends at the same SP) comes Sunday.

Glad you all had a good time. Can't quite figure out who you took. DS? Dear sister?
  • happybooker1, been years since I was to your area, Renaissance Festival still going on there?

You mentioned State Park. Were you at one in Texas, we've got a great park system in Texas. DS ... I saw the other person's post, I'm assuming Dear Son? If the kids don't nominate you for Mom of the Year, I certainly will. Nothing better than seeing kids (of all ages!) out having fun in the parks. I'm sure great memories for you and the kids.

    Keep it up! Safe travels.
  • Dave, DS is Dear Son. He'll be a Senior this year so I have to squeeze all the time in with him I can!

Tom, we went to Inks Lake up there close to you. It's one of our 2 favorite parks. Garner being the other one. Yes the RenFest is still going strong --we go nearly every year!

And it's very handy that DS can drive now! They all decided to go to Longhorn Cavern one afternoon (about 30 minutes from the park) so I sent them on their merry way and I floated in the lake!

That sounds like a sweet deal to me. They clean and do dishes, you enjoy cold ones.

No wonder you are going to do it again!:)
  • Yes Dear Son makes perfect sense. For some reason I had brain lock on Dear Sister! Yes I am sure at their age they were not much of a bother at all. I know we raised six of our own!
  • Second trip with DS & friends. DS in the middle. They were making S'mores after dinner.
  • We were just at Inks Lake a couple of weeks ago with our camping friends. We had 4 teenagers between us and they always have a blast! It is our favorite!Did they jump off the cliff at Devil's Watering Hole?
  • Of course! DS loves to do that. And night fishing off the dock. And night hiking up past Devils Waterhole too. All his friends wanted to know when we're hosting them again!

We love Inks Lake! We have been camping there for almost ten years. Our kids have loved it at every age. I know lots of folks say they have problems with their teens camping, but we haven't. One of the reasons is because we try, when possible, to camp with other families with teenagers. Also, we try to find campgrounds that will give them something fun to do. Inks Lake has kids of all ages and the water activities are great!
