Yes, I grew up poor as well but in a large city. Had my days of eating USDA excess produce (habinger to the food stamp program) and the infamous winter of eating oatmeal for breakfast and dinner; stuff nevah touches my mouth since that year even though I made it for my kiddos and now for my DGD. I cook it by smell and sight, LOL.
Being poor doesn't make you sloven; being pride-less does.
