x3 Gettysburg (stayed at the KOA, it was nice), x2 Strasburg and surrounding little Amish towns. Lake in Wood near Reading is probably the 2nd nicest campground I've been to in 20 years. (second only to WDW Fort Wilderness) Quarryville Jellystone is nice too, with a little water park.
I didn't see Turkey Hill Experience mentioned above, that's close. As is Dutch Wonderland amusement park.
You won't have a lack of things to do in Lancaster county if you like small towns!
Totally agree with your review of Lake in the Wood. We are regulars at Fort Wilderness, and until we moved to Lancaster County, we were also regulars at LITW. Tough to find a nicer campground in the area, or even the state, for that matter. Turkey Hill Experience would be great for the OP's ten year old. The wife and I are 5-6X older, but we had a blast there. The Northwest River trail starts about a block from there, and it's our favorite bike trail.
