Traveling to Gettysburg PA

Hi we are newbies at travel trailers, we have had our RV for about a year now. I was wanting any input on traveling from Dayton Ohio to Gettysburg, PA. I know that the Appalachian mountains start in Pennsylvania. Has anybody towed their travel trailer that way? How much of an incline is there? Is it a smooth ride or difficult to tow out that direction? Any help or advice would be appreciated .
  • Easy 1-2-3... We live just a few miles from the beginning of the Appalachians. There are inclines, but they PA turnpike takes a long way up (so to speak)Been out to Gettysburg with a 30 foot TT many many times. Pulled it with a Chevy Suburban.
  • agree with the poster above - if you're coming via the PA turnpike it's not bad. There are a few grades we western PA, but they are long and gradual. I pulled my 28ft Outback with a Nissan Armada through them multiple times. From the turnpike, take 15 South. 15 is great, no steep grades that I can remember.
  • The worst grade you will deal with is the allegany tunnel, beyond that its easy sailing the rest of the way.
  • Do not get off the Turnpike and take Rt 30! I made that mistake last year with my MH. Two lane, twisty, up and over mountain, long 5-6% grades. I could smell my brakes all the way down.
