I don't have to try and keep them near. They are all around our home and farm. The watermelon patch is on the far end and they eat all of them just about every year. I plant enough for them and us. Scattering more food should not be illegal as long as you don't hunt over it. I would check with a local game warden just to make sure.

You are serious about trying to attract a bear to your house? If a bear gets used to finding food at your house, it will actively look for food even if you don't leave any out - meaning it will go through doors. Virtually every time a state Department of Environmental Protection (or Wildlife) has to come to a property to euthanize a "nuisance bear" it is because someone started to feed the bear. Best way to get a bear killed is to feed it. Please enjoy wildlife, but from a distance. Let wildlife be wild.

There is nothing here a bear could hurt usually. They feed mostly on berries and such ..You need to look up the DNR site and learn all there is about bears. YES they CAN hurt and kill your pets and you. What Tvov said--X10. You're just asking for the Fish and Game Commission (or whatever your local agency is) to come kill the bears. In PA they give the bear a chance or two---if it's caught in suburban or urban area they relocate it once, MAYBE twice--then they kill it. If bears know you are feeding them they WILL be back.

That's a very bad thought to have developed and expressed.
