Specifically interested re: dachshunds and min pins. We don't know exactly how old Darcy is but from earlier vet estimates, we're figuring she's about six going on seven. Just in the last few months she's developed a mostly gray muzzle and now she has gray edges to her "elbows" and some gray mingled in the black on her belly. It makes me sad to think she may be older than we thought. She has/had a gorgeous, sleek black coat. darn it. Thanks for any info.Judy

I think it varies from dog to dog, just like ppl.

Fritz (wire hair dachshund) is 7 and is starting to gray around muzzle and on top of head.

Yeah, Calvin's going on 8 or 9 and he's getting greyer in the face and body.

I'm really hoping the Man Up Stairs helps us in getting back on a large construction project soon. Yeah for the income, but also in that we (more for Calvin though) really enjoy living on dirt, on a large open site. Sooner the better so he has the opportunity to enjoy himself!

It is hard, though. Hally has always had some white hairs on her muzzle, since she was a pup, just the way her mix turned out in terms of coat. And on her belly as well. But now she's got more on her muzzle plus she has them in her eyebrows, and I am forced to admit that what was once my rowdy puppy is now a dog in her second decade.

Gus turned 7 in January.Being Rottweiler, he is slightly larger, and has a slower metabolism so it is hard to compare He has been getting gray hairs on his chinny chin chin for about a year now. Not bad yet but noticeable to the point that it makes you sit back and think about old age starting to creep in on him.

Our daushunds - long haired red and smooth coat black & brown had grey on their muzzle arount 9-10, the black brown passed when she was 16 and by then her face, eyebrows, all brown areas were grey.Tthe long haired red passed when he was 12 1/2. The long haired red was a rescue with questionable nutrition and vet care the first 7 years of his life though and at 12 his face was all white.

:) Our Sadie the Boxer has very little grey at 7 I think she gave it all to me :)

Depends on the dog and genetics sometimes. I used to have boxers and some would start turning gray at age 4-5, but some didn't have any at age 7.

Josie the bluetick beagle is 8 1/2 ans is starting to grey up a bit around the snout . She still acts like a pup though, and can not wait for us to bring the greyhawk home next week. She even likes to just go out in the driveway and sit on the couch in the motorhome!

Lizards emmitting bleach when eaten? Who knows?

Or maybe cats have cursed dogs.... cats don't turn grey, so they get the last laugh.

The three Dachshunds (Black and Tan, Red, Black and Tan Dapple) that I have had all stated to show signs of grey between 7-10 years old. They lived an average of 15 years.
