Oh, wow! And I was about to come on this board and brag that my pound pup Tiki finally learned to sit today! We've only been working on it 2 months. :R He's not the sharpest crayon in the box, but I have hope now.
Earlier this week we had an encounter of the scary kind. I was walking Tiki on his gentle leader(doing very well, might I add!) and met another couple walking their dog from the opposite direction. When they saw my cute fluffy little doggy, they dropped their leash(!) and allowed their dog to come zooming up on us. EEEK! Who does that?? Tiki went ballistic. He's still learning to trust and the last thing he needs is a big dog invading his space! I managed to get him into a sit, with closed mouth, all the while shouting for them to call off their dog. Then I explained that Tiki was an abused rescue who still has some "issues" and they were very understanding. But they wanted to hang around and talk, which of course made Tiki very anxious. He did as well as he could, but eventually I just had to lift him up (no petting or cuddling, just getting him out of their circle.)
Anyway, I look forward to the day that my pup can herd sheep. So far, he is only herding an old butter tub and an 8" long stick he found in the yard. But at least he is sitting before he goes out and comes in!
