We know about "pressure". Last night Nell and I shed off about 6 lambs plus 2 adult ewes from the flock. We move the rest of the flock into an adjacent field and then worked our young dogs, Tally & Eve. The group of sheep was very drawn to the other field and our young dogs had to deal with holding the pressure (perpendicular to the fetch line) while allowing the group to move forward. While driving towards the pressure the young dogs had to deal with letting them move while not loosing control of them running towards the other field with the other sheep. They also had to deal with 3-4 month old lambs wanting to squirt out of the group. We're getting ready for our first trial of this season; getting our fully trained dogs physically fit and tuned-up (listening to us) and continuing the education of our young dogs.
We won't be trialing much this year. Our finals are in VA and everyone is entering every trail trying to get qualified for the finals; there are long wait lists for every trial. Between my limited vacation, the price of fuel, the inability to get into the trials closer to home (3-4hrs one way), and all the work that needs done on our farm we won't be going to many this year.
