Been learning about this disease. Heart murmurs predisposes a dog to bacterial growth on the valve and infections (like dental issues) can be a trigger for the growth. Heart murmur was never mentioned to us during exams of Bette. Bette did had a tooth infection a couple of years back (swollen face) resulting in immediate extraction and treatment. One of Bette's pups is owned by a vet friend of ours and that pup does have a very mild murmur. We had our vet friend check our two pups (and all our dogs) and one of ours also have a very mild murmur (never mentioned during previous exams). We will monitor the murmur for any changes.
You don't realize how much you rely upon a working partner until they are not available. Lambing next year may be difficult for my wife since her #1 dog's arthritis is getting bad, the son of her #1 dog won't be trained enough for lambing, Bette was her #2 dog, and Bettes daughter hasn't stepped up to fill her mothers roll
