Another RVer loses their cat....

On Facebook there's a page for RVers with pets. A woman was walking her cat in a harness and the cat managed to free itself and run off. They were leaving the next day.... no cat. They stayed an extra few days, paying for the site where they were and the site where they were supposed to be. As of last night they still haven't found their cat and she's very upset. They will have to leave the cat behind. Another poor kitty will be added to the numbers already wandering in CGs searching for their long-gone owners.

The point of this post is don't trust those cat harnesses. Most are made poorly and once the cat frees itself, you may not be able to get it back. Getting your cat chipped can also help you get it back.
  • Oh,that's awful! I've read accounts like this in the past and the CG kept the cat's photo and owner's cell number on a poster in their office. At least a couple of times that I remember, the kitty DID show up again.

Toy breed dogs will pull backwards right out of a harness, too. We bought This Kind of harness for our dogs and nobody has ever escaped from them. They have lasted for many years, too. When we had to evacuate a few years back, we put one on the cat to take her with us, and she could not back out of it, either. I think the mesh is kind of anchored by the pet's fur and that keeps it in place. Also, the flaps are closed with velcro.
  • very sad situation..I can't fathom having to return home without one of the wees...
  • Agreed. I also recommend keeping the cat in the rv with a litter box setup.

We took our cat one year and not even that worked well as the feline streak of lightning slipped past us and shot out the door... fortunately we caught him under the rv. Now he stays home. Next time if we have to have a cat with us, we will close him in the bedroom with his litter box.
  • Good points made. Chipping and being a member of an online chip tracking company help the best. Hope someone finds & cares for their kitty and they eventually get it back.
