If I had to guess - I'll bet Zeke suffered from separation anxiety from the get-go? Which is why he was a stray in the first place (probably dumped by the previous owner). Yes, a dog who suffers from anxiety can do a TON of damage in a short while (my son took in a Red Siberian Husky, who shredded the kitchen floor and walls while left alone).
