We have two elderly cats, both on more than one med of some type. All but one are compounded into a liquid. Fill the syringe and squirt. If they don't open their mouth, then it gets squirted into their cheek pocket, they have to swallow and you don't have to count fingers.
Compounding into a liquid works well with our older dog also. She is so sly, she can fake a swallow, eat the treat off the pill and spit it out. with the liquid I don't have to check the floor.
Two of the meds I compound myself at home in a simple sugar syrup. The others, the dosage is such that we have to have it made up at the compounding pharmacy. Check with your vet.
